elliot rehersed today! a couple of new songs underway. we are now rehersing at howies house and its a nice change. playing with polished floor boards below gives a nice big sound and i like it. our new rehersal day appears to be monday which suits me fine. i couldnt think of to many better starts to the working week. anyways.
we are looking for a new guiatrist. any one out there interested please call / email / msn me. thanks all.

So I stepped into billy hydes and came out with

my new snare - BZ-1450 said to be "an engineering pleasure in the studio and an expressive dream on the stage" - let's hope it lives up to it!

and a new Zildjian A custom 17" crash!

Can't wait to get back to jammin once Jono makes his way back to Australian shores

hey all. as you may know we will soon have a demo available. and we wanted to make a cover for it, and we'd like your help. under the cut are a few initial examples. what would be cool is if you could give us some feedback on which one(s) you like/dislike. and if you dont like any of them then thats okay because chances are that the one here might not even be used for the final cover. but please help us out! also. if you have any ideas or would like to take a crack at making your own cover for us that is more than cool! just post them in your reply to this post. all it needs to say is the elliot reference. thanks gang.

hey gang.
just thought id bring you all up to speed on the whole elliot reference thang. Jono is off adventuring somewhere around europe (probably in germany by now) and he'll be there for about a month. so all things reference like will come to a halt. (concerning live gigs etc) apart from that me and howie have been busy with uni but have now finished for the semester and are working on mixing the elliot reference demo which will be available very soon i suspect. in all we are reasonably happy with it. perhaps we are to hard on ourseleves. theres things in some of our individual tracks that we would change but to do so would mean months and months and months of recording and re-recording and as you may know we are busy lads so getting free time where we can all meet and where we can meet up with dave and dan (our recording gurus) is a bit of a struggle. nevertheless. the demo will be ready soon with some minor stuff ups but all in all a decent enough demonstration of our sound and style.
so yeah thats us. pre order your copy of the elliot reference demo now! (hehehe)

next gig for the elliot reference is a private show. daves 18th. (note the location has been left of this flyer for all you party crashers out there) dave is actually doing our demo recording for us. last day of recording is this sunday. then its goes into the mixing phase and then we'll see how it all sounds before we unleash it to some people.

heres some snaps taken by the lovely nitro_ at the gig we played the other night. as jono said in the previous post we just want to thank everyone who turned up to support, that was really great! and also thanks to plef for jumping in on some of out tunes. love your work dude. all in all it was a good night. (wheres the pics of howie? its all that hiding behind the drums)
in other news. the drum tracks for our demo are all recorded. time to lay down the guitars, bass and vocals.

This is where we have been doing some sketchy demos the last Sunday or two.

Who knows what will become of the recordings once they are complete, but the experience is good and it's free.

No practice this weekend. Howie's outta town. But if we had one i'm pretty sure it would go something like this:

1. Howie calls to say he's running late. We bitch about him.
2. Howie arrives, ready to play. Steve and I get out instruments and tune up for next 15 minutes. Howie complains that we really could have done that while we were waiting.
3. Steve breaks string. No spares (it's always the G). We go to buy more.
4. We stop off at service station for pink donuts. There's only ever two. Someone has to settle for a caramel one.
5. We return. Play a song. Neighbours complain.
6. End practice

So there you go. Thats how the magic happens.

the update to the previous post.
as we were listining back to the recording of the one song we got to reherse/record today from practice we realised the tape was still running during the fued with the neighbours. we couldnt make out much of the actual arguement but we did catch my tanty after id come back inside. gee i sound like a tool when i m pissed off. and i just dont make sense. its quite funny. so for your entertainment. here is emo getting emo. *wipes angry tear from eye* p.s it has been censored by howie for all those listiners with sensitive ears.

we didnt have rehersal this week. insted we took a break. howie was away. but things are looking very promising on the elliot reference front! the new song has lyrics forming nicely and should be ready to play for people come the 30th.
also in other news. ive been in contact with a friend of mine dave who has access to some really more than decent recording equipment. dave also needs to do a recording for a band as partof his course requirements. me thinks elliot and dave should put there minds togetehr and calaborate. and they shall. its still in relatively early days of discussion as of yet (coz ive only barely mentioned to jono and howie) but the elliot reference may very well have a proper demo E.P in the some what near future. which is really what we need if we intend to get gigs supporting other local bands and other gigs in general. so keep your ears to the ground folks. more news as its arises

practice on sunday went as per usual. we worked out some problems with a couple of songs and worked on the new one which is starting to develop a really cool sound. only a handful of practices left before the dural show. oh yeah and if you click above you can download a short video taken sunday at prac. its nothing grand and youll need quicktime to play it. unless someone can pass along a link to some software to help me convert it to mpeg.

mister howie setting up the oh so sophisticated recording equipment

we record most (if not all) of our sessions on to mini disc, which now can be put straight on my computer which means there may very well be an mp3 demo every few weeks on the site or journal. the first of those is on my computer as we speak. its a brand new song that ill put a link up to in a couple of days. keep your ears pricked kiddies!

but for now! tell everyone to add elliotreference. weve been blown away with how many people have added already (something like 42 and the journal has been up less than a week) so tell you friends and tell your friends to tell there friends. thanks heaps!

welcome to the updates/journal section of the elliot reference website. i guess it pretty much speaks for itself. on here we will be putting (at least weekly) updates and stuff concerning the happening of the band. rehersal info, recodring progress, new song ideas, lyrics and definantly photos will all go up here first. so add away.

i guess the winner of the 'find us a new name' competition is this one.
